In the context of insurance claims, the relevant insurance company is the Data Controller. Muinín acts as a Data Processor, processing personal data strictly in accordance with the insurer’s documented instructions.
Where Muinín processes personal data for its own administrative, regulatory or operational purposes, it acts as a Data Controller in its own right.

Most of this data is provided to us by the Data Controller when a claim is assigned. We may also collect additional information directly from policyholders, claimants, witnesses or experts during interviews, correspondence or inspections.
We may access industry claims databases such as InsuranceLink where instructed by the insurer and permitted by applicable law.

Data Retention
Unless otherwise instructed by the Data Controller:

Claims-related records are retained for seven (7) years from claim closure.

Paper records are securely destroyed at the end of the retention period.

Electronic records are securely erased, with only anonymised statistical records retained.

Call recordings are retained for two (2) years unless required for evidential purposes, in which case they are retained with the claim file for the full seven-year period.
Data destruction is carried out on a scheduled basis twice annually.
Data Subject Rights
Where Muinín acts as a Data Processor, any requests relating to Access, Rectification, Erasure , Restriction, Objection or Data portability, will be forwarded without undue delay to the relevant Data Controller.
Where Muinín acts as a Data Controller, individuals may exercise their rights by contacting us directly.
Individuals also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission.
